The children and teacher are all smiling because of you

Pilayarthidal
Dear Sculpt the Future,

Pilayarthidal was one of the villages that was almost washed away by the tsunami that struck the shores of Tamil Nadu in December 2004. The real devastation was visible after the waters receded, as the villagers found that the salinity level of ground water had risen, making it unfit for human consumption. The villagers were then forced to consume water from surface sources that were often contaminated.

The community was struck by a rash of water-borne illnesses. This was particularly harmful for the children of Pilayarthidal because they could not even attend school. Physically weak and falling behind in school, these children were losing the opportunity to grow in multiple ways.

Your donation enabled Ekoventure to install a syphon water filter in the local school in Pilayarthidal that removes harmful contaminants. These children finally have access to a healthy source of hydration, and what’s more, school attendance has started to rise. The photograph captures the joy of these children as they consume clean drinking water.

Thank you for your generosity.
