The children of Karanguda love their water filter

Karanguda
Dear Sculpt the Future,

The village of Karanguda is located in coastal Tamil Nadu, India. The tsunami that struck the coast of India in 2004 increased the salinity levels of ground water, forcing the people of the village to consume water from surface sources. This water was often contaminated and people (especially children) fell prey to water-borne diseases. The children’s ill-health resulted in absenteeism in schools and caused them to miss out on their education, which is their only ticket out of poverty.

Your donation enabled Ekoventure to install a syphon water filter in the local school in Karanguda. This water filter removes bacteria and parasites from contaminated water. School attendance has started to rise because water-borne diseases are held at bay. As you can see, the children love drinking the clean healthy water so much, they are even willing to queue up for it!

Thank you for your generosity.

The children of Kollakudi are all smiles now

Kollakudi
Dear Sculpt the Future,

The tsunami that hit the coast of Tamil Nadu, India in 2004 left 43,000 people homeless, with no source of livelihood or access to water or sanitation facilities. Kollakudi is a village in the region that was not spared from the devastation. After the waters receded and families started picking up the pieces of their lives, they found that the tsunami had created a new problem — ground water salinity levels had skyrocketed such that the water was unsafe to drink. The people of the village were forced to consume water from surface sources, which was often contaminated.

These horrible circumstances led many children in the area to fall ill with water-borne illnesses. Stripped of their health, they no longer could attend school and were prevented from pursuing their dreams through education.

Your donation enabled Ekoventure to install a syphon water filter in the local school in Kollakudi. This water filter removes bacteria and parasites from contaminated water so the children can now drink pure and safe drinking water. School attendance has started to rise because water-borne diseases are held at bay. In the photograph, you can see the smile on the faces of the children in anticipation of getting clean and healthy water.

Thank you for your generosity.

Kuppadevanvalasai’s children now have clean water to drink

Kuppadevanvalasai 1
Dear Sculpt the Future,

Kuppadevanvalasai was one of the villages that was almost washed away by the tsunami that struck the shores of Tamil Nadu in December 2004. The tsunami did more than simply destroy infrastructure and displace lives — it caused the salinity level of ground water to rise, thereby making it unfit for human consumption. The villagers of this small town were grateful to return to their home but were then forced to consume water from surface sources that were often contaminated.

The people of Kuppadevanvalasai became ill as they could not find another source of water for hydration. Children had to miss school and fell behind in their classes. Ultimately, this set them back for years.

Your donation enabled Ekoventure to install a syphon water filter in the local school in Kuppadevanvalasai. This water filter removes bacteria and parasites from contaminated water and ensures the children now drink pure and safe drinking water. School attendance has risen because water-borne diseases are held at bay. In the photograph, you can see how happy the children of the school are to drink refreshingly clean water

Thank you for your support of Ekoventure and the community of Kuppadevanvalasai.

Pethanachi vayal’s children love drinking clean water

Pethanachi vayal 1
Dear Sculpt the Future,

Pethanachi vayal was one of the villages that was almost washed away by the tsunami that struck the shores of Tamil Nadu in December 2004. The real devastation left behind was, however, seen only after the waters receded, as the villagers found that the salinity level of ground water had risen and become unfit for human consumption. The villagers were then forced to consume water from surface sources that were often contaminated.

Children and adults alike were struck by water-borne illnesses, and sadly, many children were kept from school by these afflictions. Education is typically the only way for individuals in under-privileged communities to extract themselves from poverty — these children were missing out on one of the biggest opportunities of their lives.

Your donation enabled Ekoventure to install a syphon water filter in the local school in Pethanachi vayal. This water filter removes bacteria and parasites from contaminated water. The children now drink pure and safe drinking water and have begun returning to school as a result. You can see in this image the faces of those children you have saved.

Thank you for your generosity.

The children and teacher are all smiling because of you

Pilayarthidal
Dear Sculpt the Future,

Pilayarthidal was one of the villages that was almost washed away by the tsunami that struck the shores of Tamil Nadu in December 2004. The real devastation was visible after the waters receded, as the villagers found that the salinity level of ground water had risen, making it unfit for human consumption. The community was struck by a rash of water-borne illnesses. This was particularly harmful for the children of Pilayarthidal because they could not even attend school. Physically weak and falling behind in school, these children were losing the opportunity to grow in multiple ways.

Your donation enabled Ekoventure to install a syphon water filter in the local school in Pilayarthidal that removes harmful contaminants. These children finally have access to a healthy source of hydration, and what’s more, school attendance has started to rise. The photograph captures the joy of these children as they consume clean drinking water.

Mallipattinam
Dear Sculpt the Future,

Mallipattinam was one of the villages that was almost washed away by the tsunami that struck the shores of Tamil Nadu in December 2004.
