The children of Mallipattinam now have clean drinking water

Mallipattinam
Dear Sculpt the Future,

Mallipattinam was one of the villages that was almost washed away by the tsunami that struck the shores of Tamil Nadu in December 2004. The pain and suffering triggered by this event continued to grow in the following months. The villagers found that the salinity level of groundwater had gone up, making it unfit for human consumption. The villagers were then forced to consume water from surface sources that were often contaminated.

Members of the community, especially children, were quickly afflicted with water-borne illnesses. The children were too weak to even go to school, causing them to miss out on their education. Some recovered physically, but these children were permanently set back by their loss of schooling.

Your donation enabled Ekoventure to install a syphon water filter in the local school in Mallipattinam. This water filter removes bacteria and parasites from contaminated water and the children now drink pure and safe drinking water. School attendance has started to rise because water-borne diseases are held at bay. This image conveys how grateful the children of the school are to get clean, drinking water.

Thank you for your generosity.
