The children of Manakadu village enjoy pure drinking water

GPS, Manakadu 1
Dear khai,

The village of Manakadu (8°31’26″N 78°4’12″E), is located in the District of Tanjore, in coastal Tamil Nadu, India. The tsunami that struck the coast of India in 2004 resulted in increasing the salinity levels of ground water, forcing the people of Manakadu to consume contaminated water from surface sources.

The children were among the worst affected, and they fell prey to water borne diseases. Their ill-health resulted in absenteeism in schools, causing them to miss out on their education, which is their only ticket out of poverty.

Your donation, Khai, enabled Ekoventure to install a syphon water filter in the local school in Manakadu. This water filter removes bacteria and parasites from contaminated water and the children now drink pure and safe drinking water. Attendance has started going up, because water-borne diseases are at bay. In the photograph, you can see the smiling faces of some of the happy children from the school.
